The alleged victim of plagarism, DJ Avicii.
A producer from the Ministry of Sound has taken Leona Lewis and her Label to court on the claims that Lewis’s new single “Collide” plagiarized one of her tracks.
Swedish DJ Avicii, whose government name is Tim Bergling, claims that Collide is a “Straight Re-recording” of his track “Fade into Darkness” which he had recorded back in October of last year.
Supposedly a plea from the dance producer will be heard by the High Court on Monday in order to request an injunction against the release of the single that is currently due for September 4.
Bergling revealed that he had denied an offer to sign over permission to use the track to Simon Cowell’s record label called Syco, which happens to be the very label Lewis is
signed with, because he had been in search of a female vocalist to sing over the track and release it for himself.
“Avicii is an up-and-coming talent; we think he should be given a fair crack at making this record the hit it deserves to be,” said a Ministry of Sound spokesman.
Syco and its parent label Sony have both refused to make any commentary on the issue.
Lewis had posted on her Twitter account just last week that Bergling had been well aware of her version of the song before its premiere.
“With regards to my song, avicii was aware & agreeing publishing splits for himself and his manager (sic).”
“When avicii sent his track out to have a song written over it I totally fell in love with this version and i think he’s super talented.”
Avicii responded as if he had blatantly been offended:
“Thanks for accusing me of lying and speaking on my behalf.
“Since we never met or even spoke, please let me and my manager know who told you that and what confirmation they gave you.”
If the single is to gain success, much of the credit and earnings will be due to Avicii.
